Dab & Bong Accessories – Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What’s the difference between an ash catcher and a reclaimer?

An ash catcher attaches to your water pipe’s joint and adds an extra chamber of filtration before smoke enters the main tube. It keeps your pipe cleaner and makes hits smoother – a worthwhile add-on for any regular flower smoker. A reclaimer does a similar job for dab rigs, but its main purpose is catching leftover concentrate oil that would otherwise go to waste or build up inside your rig.

Q2: What joint size do I need for my accessories?

Standard joint sizes are 10mm, 14mm, and 18mm. Most water pipes and dab rigs use 14mm joints, which is also the most common size for bangers, slides, and ash catchers. Check your pipe’s joint size before ordering – if you’re not sure, 14mm is usually the safe bet. Joint gender matters too: if your pipe has a female joint, you need a male-jointed accessory, and vice versa.

Q3: How often should I replace my downstem or banger?

Downstems last a long time with regular cleaning, but they can chip or crack at the diffusion slits over time. Replace yours if you notice reduced airflow or visible damage. Bangers are worth replacing when they get heavily devitrified – that cloudy, matte look from repeated high-heat use. A chazed banger doesn’t retain heat evenly and will affect your dab quality. Keeping a spare of each on hand is never a bad call.
